{"id":1672,"date":"2016-08-10T15:07:49","date_gmt":"2016-08-10T22:07:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wpnetwork.financialaid.wsu.edu\/stage-wds\/?page_id=1672"},"modified":"2023-01-13T12:36:45","modified_gmt":"2023-01-13T20:36:45","slug":"teach-grant","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wpnetwork.financialaid.wsu.edu\/stage-wds\/teach-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"TEACH Grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<br \/>\n<section id=\"builder-section-1473887652835\" class=\"row side-right gutter pad-top pad-bottom\">\n<div style=\"\" class=\"column one \">\n<p class=\"intro\">The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides federal grants of up to $4,000* per year ($16,000 cumulative maximum) to students who are completing or plan to complete course work needed to begin a career in teaching.<\/p>\n<p><em>*Amounts will vary <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.ed.gov\/sa\/types\/grants-scholarships\/teach#what-is-teach\">due to Sequestration<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>More information regarding the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.ed.gov\/sa\/types\/grants-scholarships\/teach\">TEACH Grant and eligibility requirements<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"\" class=\"column two \"><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"builder-section-1478562583662\" class=\"row side-right gutter pad-top pad-bottom\">\n<header>\n<h2>Eligibility requirements<\/h2>\n<\/header>\n<div style=\"\" class=\"column one \">\n<p>To receive a TEACH Grant a student must meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fafsa.ed.gov\/\">FAFSA<\/a>\u00a0each year.<\/li>\n<li>Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.<\/li>\n<li>Be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits for UGRD and 5 credits for GRAD) each semester \u2013 award amounts are prorated for less than full-time enrollment (12 credits for UGRD and 10 credits for GRAD)<\/li>\n<li>Be enrolled in an TEACH Grant eligible program at WSU.<\/li>\n<li>A student must be studying in a designated\u00a0high need field when they receive the grant. Please note the high need field definitions on this page.<\/li>\n<li>Meet certain academic achievement requirements (generally, scoring above the 75th percentile on a college admissions test or maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25)<\/li>\n<li>Sign a\u00a0TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>TEACH Grant agreement to serve<\/h4>\n<p>As a condition for receiving a TEACH Grant, a student must sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve in which they agree to teach:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In a high-need field;<\/li>\n<li>At an elementary school, secondary school, or educational service agency that serves students from low-income families; and<\/li>\n<li>For at least four complete academic years within eight years after ending\u00a0the course of study for which you received the grant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>IMPORTANT: If a student does not complete their service obligation, all TEACH Grant funds they received will be converted to a <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/understand-aid\/types\/loans\/subsidized-unsubsidized\">Direct Unsubsidized Loan<\/a>. The student must then repay this loan to the U.S. Department of Education, with interest charged from the date the TEACH Grant was disbursed.<\/p>\n<h3>How to apply<\/h3>\n<p>Students who are interested in applying for a TEACH Grant should:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Speak with\u00a0your academic advisor in the College of Education. Your advisor will notify our office or the appropriate department representative if you are in enrolled in a qualified program and eligible to receive the TEACH Grant.<\/li>\n<li>Complete and submit your\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fafsa.ed.gov\/\">FAFSA<\/a>\u00a0for the current aid year.<\/li>\n<li>Complete the U.S. Department of Education\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/teach-grant-program\">TEACH Grant Counseling<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/teach-grant-program\">Agreement to Serve (ATS).<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Once all of the steps above are completed, our office will add the TEACH Grant to your financial aid award, and you will receive an email to your WSU email that the TEACH Grant has been awarded.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Exit counseling<\/h3>\n<p>If you are graduating or leaving your TEACH Grant program, you must complete TEACH Grant exit counseling online at <a href=\"https:\/\/nslds.ed.gov\/nslds\/nslds_SA\/public\/SaEcWelcome.do\">nslds.ed.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"\" class=\"column two \"><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"builder-section-1478562634625\" class=\"row side-right gutter pad-top no-bottom-border\">\n<header>\n<h2>Your obligations<\/h2>\n<\/header>\n<div style=\"\" class=\"column one \">\n<p>Each year you\u00a0receive a TEACH Grant, you must electronically sign a <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/teach-grant-program\">TEACH Grant <em>Agreement to Serve<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This agreement specifies the conditions under which the grant will be awarded, the teaching service requirements, and includes an acknowledgment that you understand that if the teaching service requirements are not met &#8230; your grant\u00a0converts to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan.<\/p>\n<h3>Terms of the agreement<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve will require the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You\u00a0must serve as a full-time teacher for a total of at least 4\u00a0academic years within 8\u00a0calendar years after you\u00a0complete or withdrew from the academic program for which you\u00a0received the TEACH Grant.<\/li>\n<li>Perform the teaching service as a highly qualified teacher at a low-income school. The term &#8220;highly-qualified teacher&#8221; is defined in section 9101(23) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 or in section 602(10) of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.<\/li>\n<li>Teaching service must be in a high-need field.<\/li>\n<li>Comply with any other requirement that the U.S. Department of Education determines to be necessary.<\/li>\n<li>If you do\u00a0not complete the teaching service obligation, TEACH Grant funds you\u00a0received will convert to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan that you\u00a0must repay, with interest charged from the date of each TEACH Grant disbursement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>What is a high need field?<\/h4>\n<p>To meet the service agreement for the TEACH Grant and avoid loan repayment, you\u00a0must teach in a high need field as identified below.
